July favs (music)

Hey all! I’ve been travelling a lot lately and a necessity I need for when I’m on those looooong train journeys sitting amongst drunken bald men and screaming children is music. I’m a ‘wannabe indie’ (My friends say) because I like the music and I wear fishnets now and again. However, I do appreciate a bit of rap and occasionally chart music (Rarely though).

Here are my July favs!

Glass Animals – How To Be A Human Being

Glass Animals are my summer loves. They have such a unique and cool vibe and don’t take themselves so seriously. Their lyrics will often make you go ‘wtf’ but the tunes are always so fun! My favourite song is Pork Soda.

Kendrick Lamar – DAMN

I get a lot of stick from the oldies in my family for loving rap. However, they see all rap as misogynistic, egotistic and just undoubtedly offensive. I often listen to the Kendrick Lamar’s of rap in which offer their audiences a pretty powerful message and make them more aware of social concerns that the government repress such as racism and black brutality. I’m a leftie when it comes to politics so whenever I see such an artist slam the right wing monsters, it brings me joy. Kendrick focuses on the experiences of the black in poverty and how the media manipulates and the law labels. I simply cannot thank Mr Lamar enough for his legit interpretation and making me more aware of racism then ever before. Cheers man.

Danny Brown – Atrocity Exhibition

Danny Brown is fun yet oddly dark. I only discovered him after I finished my A-Levels so it was a nice welcoming hand to freedom. According to my father, the album is for an acquired taste. However, if you’re into rap in which you can dance too, this is definitely a good album. My favourite song is When It Rains!

Kasabian – For Crying Out Loud

Kasabian has always been a favourite of mine. When their new album came out I wasn’t sure. However, after constant replaying, I’ve learnt to love it. During the summer time, I try to step away from depressed Morrissey’s arm and listen to something fun. Kasabian offered this without me having to make an extreme effort and approaching a whole new genre. They have offered new material whilst at the same time sticking to what makes them Kasabian and I love them for that. They are the sort of band you can mosh pit and head bang too. Ily Kasabian.

March Albums

At the moment, music has become my latest priority, over make up.

As the weather heats up, the more I feel an urge to listen to more upbeat tunes over my standard depressing playlist, including The Smiths and Joy Division whilst walking to college and back.

Anyhow, here is my favourite albums this month!!

1) Florence and The Machine – How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful

Florence and The Machine are in my top 10 bands of all time. Their most recent album is so epic and pro-feminist which is always a plus from me! Though it’s not the most jolliest of my selection, the songs are so appropriate for festival season and those who are experiencing a summer heartbreak

Fav song = What Kind of Man

2) Blossoms – (The) Blossoms =

I was lucky enough to see these yesterday at Birmingham and was right at the very fron alongside my friend who was going psycho for them! Their wit adds so much originality to their songs and their retro feel to the tunes and music videos makes you want to get out your Mom Jeans and Doc Martin and dress up hella indie. When I listen to them I feel like I’m at the seaside which gets me excited for the warm weather!

Fav song = Smoke

3) Kanye Weat – Yeezus

I have a bit of a huge guilty pleasure for rap, which gets approval over a small number of people. Though I think Kanye is a bit of knob his music gets me hyper. I proudly admit I know all the words to Black Skinhead as it’s one of my drunk jams I rave out to after 2 glasses of wine because I’m such a lightweight.

Fav song = Black Skinhead

4) Glass Animala – How To Be A Human Being

This is probably one of my favourite albums at the moment. Their style of music is so unique and uplifting! Their songs fit for all summery occasions and get you in a positive mood when you’re feeling a bit shit.

Fav song = Pork Soda

I need to clarify that I share Amazon music with my Mother who is still in grief over George Michael, hence why his tense face is peering out at the bottom!

Anyways, I hope you’re all having a great month!!! 😄
